This year's School Programs Guide has arrived and is now available for download!
2007-2008 School Programs Guide Free guide for pre-K through high school students. The guide outlines hands-on activities that when combined with a docent tour help students make connections to the Magnes' collections and exhibitions by fostering a contemporary understanding of Jewish art and culture. >>Download Free Guide (PDF format) School Tours School programs at the Magnes are designed to directly address California State Standards in Visual Arts and Social Studies, as well as complement the curricular needs set by K-12 educators. School group tours are designed to encourage curiosity and conversation, and to help each student develop visual literacy skills. A visit to the museum is comprised of three parts: a gallery tour, a round table discussion, and an extending activity. Specially trained School Guides present exhibited art and objects as evidence of Jewish culture, using an inquiry-based model as the framework for tours. Guides are also trained in the facilitation of group dialogue and the development of critical thinking skills. Engaging activities in the areas of visual, literary and performing arts are available to round out the visit. School tours must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance by contacting Allison Green at 510-549-6950 x 337 or agreen@magnes.org. The museum is open for school tours during regular hours Sunday-Wednesday 11-4 and Thursday 11-8. School tours can be scheduled before and after museum hours with advance notice. School Tour Rates: $50 for group tours with less than 25 people $100 for groups with 25 or more people For more information on becoming a Magnes School Guide contact Allison Green at 510.549.6950 x 337 or agreen@magnes.org.
